Hello,
I am a potential XC60 buyer looking at a MY2013 D5204T3 engine 2.0 5-cylinder 163bhp example. I have been reading this thread and others with interest and commend the OP efforts on designing and offering a solution to the D5s apparent weak spot. My question is: What did Volvo do to protect the cam belt on D5 engines from 2012 onwards? And has this modification been a success? Also was this done for the 2.0l 5 cylinder variants ? Cheers |

Thanks for your reply Clan, I would certainly replace the belts and tensioners as per volvos servicing regime. Regarding the newer 'Short stroke' 2 litre 5 Cylinder engines fitted to the XC60, are these generally a robust engine?

It is exactly the same as the familiar 2.4 D5 except the shorter stroke so it feels smoother and torque is not that much less :-)

The few engines I have examined first hand with tangled belts have had the broken aux belt enter the pulley at the top not the bottom ...
