Smile Scrape-off tools

Its done 80k miles, have yet to run enough miles to notice if its improved the mpg. you can however hear the turbo whine and some wheezing (probably my imagination there) so I suspect the increase of around 10mm in diameter of the inlet port is helping !. I think the main benefit is that the ETM hopefully wont be jamming anytime soon.

Actually one tool in the set is snap on, the rest are bodge it yourself !, I was concerned that dislodging all the chud could cause a problem downstream, so was very careful to get as much as poss out. Has been running faultlessley since my coal mining session so im pleased.

Thanks for the positive comments guys

Smile Variations on the D5

I think the differences youll find on the emissions side are the Euro 3 and Euro 4 (as far as i know the higher number is a more stingent emission spec), the D5-185 is Euro 4, not sure if there is a 163 Euro 4 i recall a dealer saying you could still order 163 or 185 from end of 05? when the 185 engine version came out. The Euro 3 engines have a different manifold/egr arrangement as far as i know.

I think the first D5 (163) came out around 2002? but im sure some others on here will correct me if this isnt quite correct.

Anyone guessed the origins of the scraper tools yet?

Thanks for the thumbs up appreciated

The first D5 (Euro 3 spec) was 163bhp and indeed has a much simpler EGR system to clean out (no throttle body/ETM). When the 185bhp engine was released in 2005 (Euro 4), this was then known as the D5, and a detuned (software only) 163bhp version of the Euro 4 was known as a 2.4D.

Both Euro 4 engines (163bhp 2.4D and 185bhp D5) are identical (same turbo and injectors etc) only the software is different, and they remap to the same level.

Thats a job for a nice free day ! I hate crud .I stripped off the EGR and inlet manifold on my Golf and that was filthy
Soaked the manifold in petrol over night and then set fire to it . The crud all burned off somewhat and made the last bit of cleaning very easy !!

The EGR was cleaned out .Deleted and blocked off. Best thing i ever did

Would like to do this to mine as long as it does not throw up a "error " code ?

Its a 2002 D5 V70

Smile Which pipe?

Post a picture, of the pipe your referring to,

Didnt get any error codes after doing mine, i would think more chance of error codes on the Euro 4 with the extra software driven components on it,

i would suspect that he is on about the pipe at the back of the EGR that connects to the exhaust manifold, why he is trying there i have no idea as what he needs to clean is at the front. and leave the cooler in place
