Default Turbo to exhaust gasket

Hi Folks,

Just swapped my current D24T, which was laying a smoke screen to keep the Navy happy, with a lower mileage version. For anyone who is considering it, be warned it's an evil job!

(I suppose I'm biased as my torque convertor spigot from the ZF box got stuck in the crank, it took us ages to get the stupid thing out after much cussing and levering. It turned out that some monkey had messed up the spigot with mole grips or somthing, anyway once we'd done a bit of filing it fitted well. The re-assembly process was arduos to put it lightly, I reckon it's taken me an honest 18 hours with friends and it's still not running yet...very close though).

Anyway my question:

Any idea where I can get a turbo to exhaust flange gasket from? I've rung a number of suppliers who are quoting 10-18 days.

Cheers,

Rich

Can't see it from parts for volvos online. If it is just the time factor and you know the part number why not call Volvo UK, should be there within a few days.
If the d24T made it to the VW LT's then VW would have the gasket. Think it did as the change to that range was in 1993.

Hi Jor,

Thanks for the info, I ended up ordering it from Koping Volvo in Dublin. I managed to patch the old together and fit it with lots of exhaust paste. As long as it holds out for a week or so until the new one turns up I'll be fine.

I eventually got the 'new' engine piped up, but could not bleed the pump. After 2 nights work and 8 batteries it finally coughed into life. I ended up 'bottle' feeding it via a feed straight to the fuel filter inlet. After running off the bottle for a few minutes, I reconnected the fuel feed and it now runs fine. Must have just needed priming, or I reckon, it could have been run on veg oil that had gone off in the pump.

Initial test drives up down the yard look promising, with only a few 'tightening ups' required.

It's funny how nervous I get when starting a 'new' engine like this. Is it just me??

Cheers,

Rich

I forgot to add that I also approached a VW dealer.....ha ha...what a joke that turned out to be.

The parts guy swore that VW never made a 6 cyl diesel! He only conceded when I emailled him a pic of an early 90's LT van, with a spec showing the D24T!

He eventually found the part on the 'system', but it was obsolete....'computer says no'!

Get the manifold flange and the turbo face decked, and don't worry about the gasket

After the grief with the engine swap, I've no intention of ever taking anything off the car ever again........or not at least until the next part breaks..

Cheers,
