Yes, I will be a high mileage keeper as well. 24k per annum.

Out of interest, is anyone aware of any issues being reported with the 190bhp spec version of the D4 VEA engine?

Mine is OK so far. 19k miles. Mixed rural / motorway and driving style. Shell V-Power (perhaps irrelevant, but nukes the 'fuel' argument if it was ever thrown in my direction).
Sod's law, I'll now have a problem in the next few weeks !

A pertinent question because there will be (a large number of) cars with no EGR history which may subsequently develop an EGR problem after the end of the warranty. What then ? The VEA engine was rolled-out in late 2013 (MY14.5) so this does need to be addressed, as and when the official Volvo fix is released. I have a Volvo warranty to 5 years, but Warranty Direct (and others) will be not too pleased if dealers try to charge for a 'known issue' fix under their cover period. The only way to address this up front is for Volvo to issue a formal recall for all affected vehicles when the fix is signed-off. However, as it is not strictly a safety issue, I sense they won't want (be obliged) to do this. Whilst the maxim 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' could apply, I don't believe it is fair in the case of EGR problems.
Small point on the timeline Nigel. Volvo say they started VEA production on 13/05/2013 and fitted them from MY2014 in S60, V60, XC60, V70, XC70 and S80 models.

I would guess that quite a few cars are going to be out of warranty soon but Volvo has historically had a good history of being reasonable about out of warranty claims.

Short answer yes, seems about as common as the 181 spec. My 190 is on it 3rd egr cooler and second valve, run Shell V Power 30 miles each way daily commute, drive it like I stole it.

First time it was an issue for me was a disaster, check engine light came on so I had fault code read by Volvo assist when my car finally went into limp mode, they booked it in with local dealer.
Local dealer looked into it and said it was my engine oil throwing fault and putting car into limp mode, it had risen by 600ml. So they drained 600ml out and reset fault codes.
In actual fact my car had precisely the correct amount of oil, what happen next was my car threw a low oil level warning, called Volvo assist to attend roadside they overfilled it massively by 1.5l, drove it again more check engine lights recovered to another dealer who drained oil back to original correct level and replaced the egr valve and cooler.

My car apparently has had the latest permanent fix applied.... so I am concerned to here that other are being told it has not been rolled out yet.

Worth double checking that. Maybe your dealer got to be a tester in this and so you are ahead of the game. Mine was definitely holding back doing the old fix with the aim of carrying out the new one but that was knocked on the head by Volvo. This was from a discussion with the service guy, more likely to be truthful than if it was spoken by a salesman.

Harvey, my latest cooler and software update was installed in September last year, a Volvo technician attended my car, this being the third attempt I was assured this latest fix I have came about after extensive testing by the Swedish engineers who came to England to look at it.

We will see,

My friends 190 D4 VEA has been in the dealership for the past 2 weeks waiting for its 3rd EGR fix.

Today the leasing company have taken the car back as no guaranteed fix is available.
He is now going in to a Discovery sport or top of the range Tucson.

Called in today to book a 2 year service for beginning of May.

Normally put the car in at 13.00 and get it back at 17.00, but asked if they would need it for longer, to resolve issues with EGR/Oxygen sensors.
Senior Technician informed me that, at the moment, they are only doing software updates.

I have never had the EGR valve changed, only four visits to get Oxygen sensors changed/cleaned, as a result of the dreaded Engine Check warning.

So from this, it does not look like Volvo are about to rectify the problems, soon.

tem.

This type of action from the leasing companies will start to hurt Volvo.
It only needs a few of them to take the affected D4 engines off the lists and sales will be affected.
