For sale: Volvo 2.4d\d5 timing belt additional protection
Here we have for sale additional protection\cover for VOLVO 2.4D and D5 engines
Why do I need one? Additional cover will protect your engine from expensive repairs or write-off due to aux belt\air-con belt snapping and wrapping around timing belt and damaging engine. Some Discussions here: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=189326 http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=80119 http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=154476 http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=170141 http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=208165 http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=188297 Does my engine needs one? Cars with 2.4D and D5 engines till year 2012 would benefit from this. After model year 2012 timing belt cover design has changed and there is no need for extra protection. Which cars\engines will it fit? S80, V70, XC60, XC70 with 2.4D and D5 engines 2007-2012 (???) See post - How to check if it will fit my engine? S60 D5244T10 XC60 2009 D5244T4 XC70 2008 D5244T4 -------- WILL NOT FIT: XC60 2014 D5244T12 XC70 xxxx D5244T15 XC60 2013 D5244T17 XC70 2012 D5244T17 Engine Code - D5244T17 XC90 WHAT WILL BE INCLUDED? 1 x Timing Belt protection 2 x M10 bolts 1 x M7 bolt 1 x cable tie See pictures here: HOW MUCH WILL IT BE ? GBP 55 inc. tracked delivery. Bit expensive due to this item is not manafactured, but hand made by one person, which lives abroad (postage costs). HOW CAN I GET ONE, WHERE DO I PAY? Payments via Paypal, Contact me via PM for details HOW DO I FIT THIS? Quick update: Appologies, but this should be added to first post earlier on. To be able to tell if this protection guard/kit will fit your D5, you will need to jack up your car, take wheel and plastic inner arch off and look for following: There have to be 2 bolt holes into your engine block on left from you and 1 smaller bolt on right hand side, which holds timing belt cover. If you can't see 2 holes on left hand side of your engine block -IT WILL NOT FIT. See pictures: Last edited by cumbrianmale; Mar 19th, 2016 at 17:32. Reason: OP added detail |

Need one of these.
My father had a blown engine thanks to one of these belts. Now he was told about these guards, managed to track them down to this forum. Joined the forum as a member so that I could PM Elemental888 about procurring one, but as I'm new and don't have the required "30" posts I'm not entitled to PM an administrator. Hopefully this post gets through to him one way or another.
Cheers Bob |

Hi,
Are these still available ? I’ve replaced my belts after this happening on my car but I’m reluctant to replace the air con belt until I have this cover. It’s very sad to read of the negativity here. If an aux belt goes it will take the path of least resistance and it’s likely, not definate, but likely to not enter the cam belt if this device resists its path.
You can’t ‘prove’ this phenomenon. A belt going is unpredictable and it depends upon the current revs, direction if failed belt travel etc. The only FACTS here are that the original poster is purchasing, supplying and posting what appears to be a well made product out at £55.00 that he makes no claims to be tested by a UKAS accredited lab. People here should be ashamed. |

Hello,
I am a potential XC60 buyer looking at a MY2013 D5204T3 engine 2.0 5-cylinder 163bhp example. I have been reading this thread and others with interest and commend the OP efforts on designing and offering a solution to the D5s apparent weak spot. My question is: What did Volvo do to protect the cam belt on D5 engines from 2012 onwards? And has this modification been a success? Also was this done for the 2.0l 5 cylinder variants ? Cheers |
