Default Possible Geartronic Problem Question

I have recently purcahsed a 2005 S60 D5 with Geartronic Transmission, and I have noticed of late that when park is selected and the break pedal is de-pressed an audible clicking noise can be heard coming from the gear selector. Furthermore, if you place your hand on the gear selector you can also feel the click.

Please can someody advise as to firstly what this noise is and what causes it, and secondly if this is normal?

Thank you all in advance of your help,

Matthew

Sounds like the lock-out to me. Basically it stops you moving the gearlever out of Park unless you have the brake pedal pressed.

Matt

The gate to release the lever from park is only released when the brake pedal is depressed, I imagine that is the clicking noise you can hear and feel, my 80 does it but it's not loud.

Cheers,
Pip

Question

It is just that I have never noticed it until today. Also if you sit in the car with the engine idling and the shifter in park and press and depress the brake pedal you can hear and feel the click...

Maybe it is normal but do any of your cars do this? Maybe now I have noticed it, it seems loud...

It is a pity that I can't hear what yours sounds like. Perhaps I'm being paranoid but I hate things like this when you are never too sure...

Perfectly normal.

Some light lubrication may help quieten it.

Matt

I think what Chris means is to lubricate the mechanism that locks the gate to stop gear lever movement, I have never taken the covers off my cars to expose the gear lever mechanism so I have no idea how the Volvo system works but lubrication would be of benefit, no hurt in taking the covers off for a peek though.

Cheers,
Pip
