Volvo retro-fitted Garmin Nüvi 765 sat nav
Hi everyone,
On new Volvos, e.g. C30, S40, V50, C70 you can have the fully integrated sat nav (which is generally considered to be expensive and not very good - i.e. slow!) or the retro-fitted Garmin system that sits on top of the dash in a Volvo-specific cradle: http://www.volvocars.com/uk/sales-se...avigation.aspx Does anyone have the Garmin system on their car? It costs almost £400 from a Volvo Dealer (not sure if that is fitted or not) but you can buy the Garmin unit for approx. £140 online ... What are you getting extra for the money? Does the "install" on the Volvo with the cradle mean there are no visible wires and/or power supply? Any additional info from current owners would be gratefully appreciated! Cheers, Ben |

Our Garmin Nuvi runs off the internal battery most of the time without the lead attached, usual sucky thing on the screen.

Hi,
I've got one of the Garmins. It sits into a factory fitted cradle on the dashboard - nice and neatly, with no wires and no fiddling about. The difference between the Volvo Garmin and other Garmin's, from what I can see, is that the Volvo one is set up for Volvo cars, with little additions to the software i.e. list and locations of Volvo dealers etc. You can also go onto the Garmin site and update your Navi, although you'd need to buy a usb cable to do that, as it doesn't come with one. So, it's personal choice really. I wasn't expecting to get one at all, as I bought an ex-demonstrtor and it was already fitted. But I also have a TomTom that we bought for our old car and that was just as good. Cheers. |

Hi Ben
I installed the Garmin Volvo system to my S40 10 plate. I had an Audi A4 previously and retro fitted the fully intergrated RNS-E system to that car. I didnt like the look of the fully intergrated Volvo system so went for the Garmin option. I purchased the Garmin system from a seller on eBay and got a local Volvo specialist to install the system. The system looks got with the power wires hidden, the unit taken from from the cradle. The system has nice touches as the Volvo logo appears when the system first switches on and has Volvo dealer locations pre-loaded. I like the Garmin system, looks good and most importantly it does the job. Darren |

@Darren - do you recall roughly what it cost for a Volvo specialist to install the system?

One other question to those who have the Volvo Garmin installed ... does it interface with the car audio at all? i.e. play the audio instructions through the stereo speakers and/or mute Radio/CD/Aux when Sat Nav instructions are spoken?

Garmin Volvo POI
Does anyone know where I can download the 765 Volvo POI file.
My origional unit had a map updateing problem and Garmin exchanged it for me (although out of warranty) but they didn't have to Volvo version so I have lost all the dealer locations. |

I think this is the installation you mean, this is for the xc90, any confident diyer could do it , Ive copied the idea using my tomtom 530 and mount , ( made up the kit, but not got round to drilling the speaker grille yet )

Try www.pocketgpsworld.com as they have a free download for Garmin (csv format that you install using the Garmin POILoader software) that covers the Volvo dealers - Mike
