Default EGR fault code

Have just had my s40 2.0d sport plugged in and coming up with EGR valve fault, am abit skint and looking to clear it out / service it in attempt to fix before replacing it. Has anyone done this and know of "how too" anywhere on here or internet. I,ve got Haynes manual on its way and my Dads an engineer on hand to assist. If I do replace will I have to get volvo to plug it into ECU to work?

Cheers Phil

Wink egr replacement

£200 pounds to buy egr over the counter for a 1.6d. But before you buy one ask yourself this....are you getting bad mpg could be egr or mass airflow or engine temp sensor. You need to take out your fuel filter at back of engine first to get at egr be very careful taking it out 1 hour tops, spray with tin of egr cleaner £10 put back in then get codes read by volvo, better safe tha sorry for an extra £20 for a diagnostics from volvo than a cowboy.

the egr valves were upgraded a few years ago to stop them sticking and the software was upgraded to stop unnecessary warning light.

I work in Bradford and am there all day today. I have a PPC code reader which is specific for Volvos in my car.

What make model do you have? Your more than welcome to use it if it works for you.

It will read and reset all volvo codes

Edit:

Vehicle coverage
BSR PPC Diagnostic System works with all Volvo from 2001-2007.
Exceptions:
S80 1999-2006 works
S80 D/D5/TDI 1999-2000 does not work
C70 98-05 does not work
S/V40 96-04 does not work
