I don't know how many times I am told on this forum that someone can get belts/tensioners done for 8s 6p ( if you can remember that currency!)
I've phoned about 8 garages in the last month ( some recommended on these pages) and those quotes all come in at around £400 - £550, thats specialists, non franchised, local village garages. If you find a garage that will do it for £200 please let me know too!! |

Well I've just done mine myself - literally finished half an hour ago. See here if you're interested: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...=114983&page=7
Costs were: Timing belt kit - includes belt, tensioner & idler = £67 Water Pump = £29 And I'd say 3 hours should be tops for an experienced garage - I did mine in about that, and it's the first time I've done it, and I'm feeling my way. So let's say 2 hours at £50 per hour from a good independant, that's a total of £196 assuming they pay no more for the parts than I did, and they shouldn't! So I'd say you're being led astray with those prices, even if it took the full 3 hours, you shouldn't be looking at more than £250. Bring it over - I'll do it for you for £300!

so for 96 quid taken from 400= £304, is that what you would be paying labour charges for a 2_3 hour job, well I dont think I would.....but maybe its the location as well ,..I have a mate who is a mechanic and has told me for parts and labour to do my v70 £230 all in, so I wasnt that far away with my estimate after all....and as Neil says £275 from his main dealer (albeit last year ), so as said before shop around it will pay in the long run john

Gah - I didn't spot that - fairy nuff!
Would the parts be that much more though? I'd still say £500-ish is OTT wouldn't you?
