Default Problem with carpet in the rear wheel cove

(Sorry for my Εnglish)
I notice a dark mark-line inside the rear tires.
A saw it some month back and i don't give much attention.
Now i just return from summer vacations i saw it again.
Closer look reveal that the carpet in site the wheel cove sticking out and when the car is heavy, the carpet touch(rob) the sidewall.
In this area the carpet is now sleek...
Further looking reveal the same problem in the other site to.
Have any one notice this?

interesting. a carpet inside the wheel arch. to a layman like me, it seems a bit odd. i'll take a look next time i'm out. see if i can see anything. i'm sure others will too if they get the chance. or maybe someone can comment why it's there in the first place?

Weird, just looked at mine and definitely no carpet, or underlay there. I wonder if it is some form of sound-deadening that is required in Norway? Though I have to admit that I would think it would get very wet and heavy (not to mention smelly) with road spray.

very confusing

I think is for noise and to collect the spray in rainy days.
There is no "carpet" in your wheel arch wimorrison?
Weird!
My previous Mazda have it.
I go tomorrow to the garage to show it to them.
Thought: what it will be happen if the tire rubbing the carpet for one hour...

Is the carpet only on the back? I cant think of any reason for this, it will harbour dampness leading to premature corrosion especially in this country where the roads are salted. I would contact Volvo and go to the dealership who sold you it, have a look around the showroom.

There is anyone of you have this "carpet - protection" inside the rear wheel arch?

My XC60 has similar wheelarch shielding....I assume that it's standard across all models. Looks a bit like underlay but I assume it's better at adsorbing sound than the old plastic. I think my previous 2007 Citroen C4 Picasso and 2008 Audi A4 both used similar material.

Thanosgr.
I have just checked my MY12 & it has the standard type of plastic material that has a "carpet" type of texture that lines the inside of the rear wheel arches - suspect it's primary purpose is to to ensure water spray etc is deflected back onto the road surface rather than into the rear subframe area.
It sounds like in your case one of the rivets holding it place has come out - should be an easy dealer fix.
