T5 Lpg Conversion.
I am looking for some advice on an Lpg conversion for a 51 plate T5 auto. I have not yet bought the car but after a test drive it is hard to resist despite the fuel gauge having a fault by dropping quicker than the rev counter when switched off.
Has anybody had a T5 converted and what problems / benefits were seen. I am waiting for a quote from an installer at Rapid Tune, Monkton Combe garage near Bath. Has anyone experience of this installer. The car is £3590 with one owner, 114,00 miles Service history and recent timing belt. Winter and family pack are also fitted and it is a geartronic. Drives lovely. Any coments ? |

The word with LPG is yes, BUT only if you plan to keep the car a long time and cover a lot of miles.
Payback time is around 30,000 miles to recoup the conversion costs, so you need to be planning to do 100,000 in the car to make it really worth it. Also, LPG makes more sense if most of your driving is long distance at steady sustained speed. If the car is used for lots of short journeys only then remember that the first mile or two of every journey is done on petrol, so if your daily commute is less than 5 miles you'll use as much petrol as you do LPG. Last thing, if you're getting a T5 converted, get it done by someone who knows T5s. All LPG conversions are NOT the same. Cheers Jack |

T5 Lpg conversion.
Thanks for the advice Capt Jack. The usage would be a varied mix of short journey's, towing the caravan( sorry, but I do not travel at 30mph with it) and longer trips to take the kids to rugby and athletics. I would expect to keep the car for the next 100,00 miles.
I have read some of posts by Dai and would consider using him to do the conversion. Can anyone recommend anyone nearer though. I am in Trowbridge Wiltshire. Derek. |

I had my V70 Classic converted way back when. It is the best motoring decision I ever made as I've now driven 200,000 miles on LPG and the car is still going strong. In that time I reckon I've saved something over £12,000 in fuel costs. Mine's not a T5 but a more workaday 2.5 10v. Even so I took a lot of care in choosing a conversion company. That care has paid off, as you'll see if you have a ramble through some of my old postings on here. Dai Brace has a great reputation, and I reckon you'd be well advised to contact him for a price and his recommendations. Cheers Jack |

A member of there staff does post on the LPG forum and he is fairly clued up on installation etc. I've not personaly seen any of there work so can not comment on there standards. I do find it a bit odd the photo on there site is over 10 years old and quite out of date kit wise! The great thing with range rovers is they are not fussy.
Price wise I'm very competative (see thread in this section for prices) and you can be sure of top quality equipment being used. There ar probably only two installer that I can recomend for installation. 1 in Scotland and and the other is in Boston. |

Turbo cars are no problem for LPG conversions, as long as you fit the correct system.
I have covered near 20,000 mile on my C70 2001 T5, after years of research I got my BRC multi point with (larger 'orange' lpg injectors to take the extra demand from the turbo, which it can take 300BHP now). Conversion is now around £1500 from Greenfuel but speaking from experience you need to ensure the system is correctly fitted. My 960 LPG system worked (on and off) for nearly 10,000 miles then blew up taking out most of the engine bay ! I was luckly I wasn't hurt, but it proved if the system does not suit, or cut corners it can go very, very wrong. My BRC system is faultless, it paid itself back in 10 months and have had no problems, no performance loss. 220 miles is around £30. I service it every year for £130 and every 2000 miles is around £8 in valve saver fluid.
