I had a similar problem. Try checking the earth connection on top of the engine block, found between two of the coil packs. Make sure it's clean and tight.
Other than that, I don't know. |

Sounds like it could be the wiring to the coil packs from the ecu. Usually they get brittle with all the heat etc under bonnet and deteriorate.
Other than that u could have a compression test done across the cylinders to rule out the v worst case of ur engine being fecked. Zaff

Don't panic!
Hello, A big "mistake" in the fuel or air flow in an engine can make it run rough. Four injectors going bad simultaneously is quite a long shot. A bad load of fuel is more likely. See if unplugging the MAF sensor changes anything at idle. ALWAYS check hose connections. Low fuel pressure can result from an old pump or bad FPR (fuel pressure regulator). It's time to eliminate causes. Do not cease your march to 500,000 miles. Kira

I take it car runs poorly, as in, it does have a misfire?
Spark plugs should always be changed with new coils anyhow so look at all of them, better still change anyway. While you have them out, one at a time, check to see you have a spark from each coil/plug combination by grounding the spark plug to engine casing/aluminium rocker cover. Disconnect the fuel injectors for this or pull fuel pump relay to prevent flames. You should also check/remove and clean the earth connection that randomnumber mentioned. After/along with these checks, the afore mentioned wiring loom is also worth a good look.(ruthlessgk) Main engine relay feeds all these coils i would imagine, engine code? |

Thanks everyone for your help, I'm really involved in finding this fault before anyone else. I would change all the coil packs and plugs for new tommorrow but at £50 each for a Bosch pack plus plugs I'm kind of holding off, and looking at other things, I dont know how good these OBD unit is but its saying 0302 0303 0304 0305 and 0300 which is multiple cylinder misfire, there is no code relating to pot 1, even when I changed 5 coil packs for a spare set after clearing the errors and rescaning it brought up the same code, then when I changed plug from cylinder 1 with 5 again it brought up the same codes, never as it pulled a 0301 error ( cylinder 1)...When I unplug the MAF sensor the engine reacts and wants to die? At normal speed 0-70mph the car runs not perfect but not too bad either, its higher speed when you notice it really struggling. How can I check the wiring loom apart from visualy?
