Default Rear Parking Sensor

Hi

I've searched the forums but can't seem to find anyone who has had the same problem. When selecting reverse (2005 XC 90) the parking sensor makes a continuous noise and does not alert the driver if anyone walks past whilst in reverse or when nearing a stationary object.

Has anyone encountered similar problems and if so would you mind letting me know how your resolved them.

Many thanks

I have not experienced this with my Volvo, but we have a couple of Mercedes vans at work and this is quite common on them. It usually seems to be dirt on the sensor or occasionally when one of the sensors pops out of its hole and is misaligned.

Have you had this problem for long? It's just that my own XC90 (2006) did it yesterday (Wednesday) as I reversed off the drive. But it was very frosty and had snowed a fair bit over the last couple of days - some of which was still crusted on the rear bumper.

I ignored it and the rear parking sensors worked fine when I reversed into my parking bay at the office in Edinburgh (some 35mls later).

Might just be frost, some frozen snow or plug of dirt on the surface of the sensor?

Otherwise, no idea!

Regards, David

Yes I get this sometimes after driving in very wet weather. All I do is give the sensors a wipe with a rag and the problem solves itself. I would guess that the same will apply when snowy and icy.

When this happened on our '06 XC90, we had to have some sensors replaced and now the C70 has gone exactly the same. £££££££££££

Had this mid - last year. If it is not snow/ice, you'll probably find that you need a new sensor (or more!) and maybe a new sensor loom. Known regular problem and I am sure there are posts on here about it.

Same on mine. When wet it sometimes malfunctions.
