Hi everyone,
just had my XC90 serviced and they have found a brake line where the plastic coating has broken and the underlying pipe has corroded to the point where the line has now 'blistered'. Are these lines available to buy as the local dealer has told me it is going to cost £250 to get it replaced. I am fairly sure my local garage can do it for a fraction of the price! Cheers |

The brakelines on most cars are generic. Only bits that are custom are if they have a flexible part integrated into the metal pipe.
Brakelines fitted to volvos are a really high spec steel, but will typically perish after 12 years or so. You can extend this by careful TLC and sanding and painting them, but eventually they rot, usually on the bends. Most garages fit copper brake pipes as replacements. Copper is easier to work with, but less durable in the long term. If you feel up to making your own pipes then you can buy the kit with union ends and flare tools for sensible money. take of the old pipe and use it as a pattern for making a replacement. |
