Default Radio!

Finally after 24 years of playing Abba, A-Ha, Roxette and various other Scandanavian delights the tape player has stoped playing...

When a tape is put inside nothing happens, could it be a broken drive band somewhere in the radio? I am reluctant to upgrade to a cd player as I like the original look of the car interior. I think the player is the CR 702, it's in my '89 GLT estate.

Anyhow my expertise stretch to none in this respect so any advice would be greatly recieved.

Thanks, Jake.

Broken drive band or possibly a micro switch operated by the tape.

put a CD player in the glovebox and keep the original, or just bin the original and fit a CD player

Although my radio works OK the cassette has given up the ghost

I carry a compact CD player with built in speakers that tucks under the passenger seat when not in use and sits on top of it when it is - plugs into the 12v cigarette lighter socket

As a matter of interest I wonder how many 240's were sold without radios? I have on occasion seen ones advertised with no radio but Im not sure whether this is because they never had them or they were subsequently removed

Thanks for the replies, I think the idea of a cd player hidden away in the glovebox sounds good. I will change the speakers too as there are only 2 in the front that have been there since new. Is this normal as the car is a GLT? I would have expected speakers in the rear doors as well.

I am now thinking some sort of loud speakers that sit behind the original grills so the people of Cardiff can enjoy a blast of Abba when I drive past.

Im sure that my GLT had speakers in the back

Perhaps they were an optional extra?

I fitted a Blaupunkt unit from the late 90s - its an RDS unit with cassette but it runs a CD changer in the boot and an additional amp and sub. It all looks fairly stock as the head unit is black and a radio/cassette but gives me CD, and is a nice upgrade from the standard system.

That looks amazing inside! Mine has the beige leather combo that I have invested literally hours cleaning. Think I might steal the audio setup though, thanks.

My GLT has the rear speakers just in front of the rear seat upright (imagine sitting in the rear seat and where your elbow is) and mine are factory.

My other 240 had them in the doors.

Suppose it depends on the year.
