I would be expecting to pay at least 200-300 for a full flush using 12-16ltrs of JWS3309 oil if there looking on auto data like most garages do it will show dexron 3 THIS IS THE WRONG OIL you need JWS3309 oil and unfortunately is as expensive as gold.
Why not do it yourself its not a hard job if you can change engine oil you can change gearbox oil the only difference is the only fill point is the dipstick tube DO NOT GET A POWER FLUSH THIS WILL KILL THE BOX AS WILL THE WRONG OIL The genuine Volvo oil is approx £10 a litre ex vat and you need 12-16 ltrs to do it properly. |

150 for 12 litres of gen fluid, and clips to refit cooler hose, and 30 mins - 1hr labour
Just to add, just draining and refilling box is just diluting the dirty oil, unless you call draining a couple litres of engine oil out of car, and topping back up, an oil change? Last edited by cookie; Mar 2nd, 2013 at 08:23. |

Hi,
Yep, I know its not a full 'gibbons' like http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...&highlight=atf. I will have to check the oil as if its £10/litre, that would be £70+, so £75+vat is a little concerning now....... Its a drain of 7.1litres and a top up, so I know its not doing everything and just diluting it, but I was working on the principal that that's better than nothing. I'm not very handy, so I didn't want to have a go myself in case I mess something up. Having said that, I might take another look at the link above and reassess. Does anyone know anywhere in the midlands, a max of 1hr from Telford, that would do a full 'Gibbons' flush for me? Thanks, Darren. |

A flush (with approx. 12-16ltrs of oil) is the only and best way to change all of the oil. If just draining by the plug, you will only get out ca 3ltrs (the rest of oil is in the cooler, the hoses, etc). So, what is a "power flush" and the problem with that? |

a power flush is where they use a machine to pump the atf fluid in at high pressure to get the oil out this kills the box

Ok, so its no harm to flush it by your self, thru the hose with engine running.. Like about drain 2ltrs at the time, refill 2ltrs, start again to drain 2ltrs... and so on..?
