Default Volvo 850 replacement key.

I am in need of a new key for my 1994 Volvo 850. This is not an electronic fob key.

All the key cutters I have asked say that the key is just too long to fit onto their machine.

How do I go about getting an inexpensive new key?

I used these guys for an extra key; they cut to code for an excellent price. The key they sent me functions as a Master key, so it operates the boot & glovebox, as well as the doors and ignition of course.
Ideally, provide them with the key code, though they do say they can cut from a photo of another key.
No immobiliser on my car and there won't be on yours either, so it's a pre-95 key you want - excellent value and they use a quality blank too.

I have an original key, and can see no signs of any number on the key itself, so where would the code details be?

It just says 'Ymos'

It normally appears on the original bill of sale or on other documents supplied by the supplying dealer, but if you don't have that, then your local main dealer should be able to provide you with the code if you prove you own the car and your own identity (driving licence, utility bill & V5C should do it).

Have you got a timpsons as they can cut them with no issues and with no immobiliser in the key no code required

Thanks for your interest Thanatos.

I have tried two Timpson's and both say that their machines cannot grasp the cloning key. I find this odd, as a number of Internet sources also say that Timpsons have no problem.

I will try them again, and quote that other Volvo owners have not had an issue with cloning the key.

Thanks for your interest 854 1984cc

Last time I went to my Volvo agents they wanted £25 to give me my radio code, & £40 to drill a hole to open my glove compartment. I solved both these issues, free, with help from the Volvo forum.

That's disappointing to hear, most Volvo dealers would give a radio code for free and some even give it over the phone!
There are some dealers on here - maybe try calling FRF Swansea (details on Member Discount section) - with some faxed proof that you own the car, they may be willing to divulge your key code? Worth a try.
