Tailgate/Alarm module
I recently had an issue with a "tailgate open" message. Did the check of the mico switch and the wiring in LH tailgate hinge and all looked to be fine. A couple of squirts of electrical contact cleaner and the message was gone.
Today the message has reappeared, and its done my head in. Long story short, both the micro switch wires do not run back to the connector that is behind the rear speaker in the pillar, only one does,a brown wire runs to a "broken glass sensor" on the rear window and then to earth somewhere. In my car this sensor/wiring I think is faulty, as I can't get a continuity signal from the BGS connector and earth. If i wiggle the connector it ocassionally earths. Because of no continuity I get a tailgate open message. Therefore I think that the reason my alarm was going off had begger all to do with the alarm batteries, but more to do with a failing BGS connector. Has anyone had any dealing with these?? can they be repaired?? Tomorrow if its fine I'll have another look, but if push comes to shove I will take the brown wire off the BGS connector and just earth it. Trouble is the tailgate appears to be non metalic!!!! Update
Found no real helpful addional info on the BGS - save it can't be replaced/repaired and the only option is to replace the rear screen - not really a viable option on 226K car.
I have thus earthed the "brown" wire through a black number plate light wire and all now appears good - message gone and siren now working too - internal battery connection wires corroded white plug so soldered battery wires directly onto PCB. - Don't think I'll have car when they need replacing again..
