Hi My sons 2009 v70 2.4D needed a new thermostat last year. He suspected it wasn't reaching proper temp so bought a plug in unit that speaks to your smart phone . When checked it was running very cool . He bought the new thermo from local volvo dealer .This comes complete with new housing etc and cost ,I believe £125 ish.Unlike the thermostats of yesteryear, £3 to £5 max ! He asked me to help fit it as it is well hidden behind the engine, tucked up behind the turbo at the gearbox end of engine ( check your as I believe they did change them to the front end of engine a little later). We quickly decide it was not an easy fit so called the local Volvo dealer for a fitting price . They quoted £200 inc vat at which point he said book it in . When he arrived to collect it the fitter who had been given the job was just parking the car . My son asked if it was a tricky job and the fitter was fuming at the time and complexity of what should be an easy job . and that is with the aid of a car lift etc . Had we started it at home it would have been a nightmare getting to it from on top or underneath with just axle stands and jack .So bite the bullet and get it fitted . His engine now runs much sweeter and warms up quickly. l

you would need to take out the battery tray and remove the whole EGR system under the back of the cylinder head before you could even see it . Volvo fixed time is over 2 hours ...
