Default Xenon headlights

I thought I knew how these things worked, but I now I realise I know nothing.
Like many here I have a slight issue with low beam on dip from the O/S headlight.
My solution was to be fool the system of auto adjustment in some( unknown) way, get the light lifted and then disconnect the electric wiring from the motor that moves ( least I thought moved) the lights from dip to main.
It appears on my car the electric motor ( it sits between dip and main beam lamps, and has the white 6mm manual adjuster sat on top) does not move the lights from main and dip beam.
When I removed the plug ( three wires from L-R a pinky brown, a red and green central wire and a black) the light could still be moved from Dip to main beam from the stalk by the steering wheel.

How???? What is the function of the "box" I used to call a motor. I have felt around it and there are no other connections.....

I know the correct method is to do a SUM recalibration, but in order to get that to work on my AWD R I need to jack the rear up slightly or I get an error message saying the rear sensors are not reading correctly, and I don't want to change the sensors, as I'm unsure how to do it, and I'm not really sure they are at fault.

Confused

Cheers

Bob

The reason your not able to calibrate the sum correctly is because the car is not completely level. Have you tried to calibrate the sum with the rear of the car raised slightly ?.

Hi, I didn't mean fitting them as per original spec. I just wanted to know if I could fit xenon bulbs to enable me to see better in the dark. I have manual height adjustment on the headlights so don't need sensors on the rear arms. turbo d
