Front near side squeak and high temp
Hi All,
So I've searched and searched to no real avail.... The car is pulling to the nearside and to keep her in a straight line I have to turn the wheel to the right by a degree or two. She's recently had new wishbones (with bushes), drop links and top mounts on the front and has a set of the same tyres on which are wearing evenly. She's been tracked after the work and has been double checked a week or so ago and the garage say the tracking is absolutely spot on. The even checked all the work that they have done and have pry-barred everything to check for movement whilst on the ramps. So there's nothing amiss apart from.... The front nearside brake is squeaking. This happens after about 10 or 15 mins of driving and goes when I apply the brakes. It is not constant but more of a squeak, squeak, squeak and speeds up with road speed. I have checked the discs after driving for 30 or so mins and found the nearside is a fair bit warmer than the rest (not that hot that you cannot touch it but hot). So I'm thinking that in the process of replacing the wishbone that the calliper has been knocked or something has happened that is maybe causing the piston to stick a little???? I think I'm clutching at straws but can anyone shed any light on this and any possible fixes?

I can only relate this to a similar problem on one of my motorbikes.
Remove the wheel, take out the brake pads, spray the pistons with brake cleaner fluid, and brush with an old toothbrush. Probably be a good idea, to measure the thickness of the pads and disc, then place "something between the pads, which is about 2mm less, press the brake pedal. This will expose more of the piston to clean. Pistons on motorbikes can get corroded, or just a build up of muck, which stops them releasing after letting go of the brakes. long time since I played with car brakes, there may be a rubber gaitor covering them. |
