Default 2012 XC70 - Interior lights not working with doors

I picked up my XC70 yesterday, and I love it!

One thing I have noticed is that the interior lights don't come on when I unlock the car, or open the doors. They do work if I switch them on manually, but leaving the switch in the middle position seems to mean they don't work. I've noticed that a couple of times, on turning the engine off, they have come on for maybe a second or so before knocking off.

When I picked it up, I was getting the 'low battery' warning quite soon after knocking the engine off too. Could this be related? Electric tailgate etc. all still work as expected, so it seems odd that it would kill the interior lights.

The boot area light works when the boot is open, the doors all lock properly etc, so I'm a bit confused! Am I missing something obvious? I'm assuming it's not a fuse as the lights work when switched on manually. The footwell lights do come on when I unlock, also.

Hope someone has seen this before and sorted it...

I pick up my 10plate yesterday too so not much time to play with it. But think if you go into your menu there should be light settings that you might be able to change.

I've had a look in there and can't see any settings to do with the interior lights, will check again though! Thanks.

The light switches in the roof will switch the lights I believe. Press and hold the center switch to reset door switching . It's used to switch off lights when working with doors open to save flatting battery. Details in manual.

It's not that, I'm afraid. They are now coming on for a second or two when opening a door or turning off the engine. They come on gradually as is normal in a Volvo, but then turn off instantly a couple of seconds later, no gradual dimming.

I'm beginning to suspect an issue with the controller for the interior lights - or possible water damage to the interior light unit, as the windscreen may have the leaky top edge? It hasn't rained since I've had it to know if that's a current issue!

The low battery warning is now gone but the lights aren't right yet.

Is it possible previous owner has replaced bulbs with LEDs? That would certainly explain why they don't gradually fade out.

They should stay on longer than a few seconds anyway.
There's no "center button" either in this model. No, something is wrong. Since they do go on, it doesn't look like it's the door switches. Have you tried with all four doors?

Bit of an update on this now I have VIDA working...

CEM B1D1A12 - Interior Lights Circuit "C" - General Electrical Failures - Circuit Short to Battery

I've removed the light units to check for any visible damage on the circuit boards, I did see a little bit of corrosion between a couple of connector pins so I cleaned those up, and checked resistance across all the lamps, and they were all fine. I can't dismantle the light units to get at the backs of the PCBs without destroying some plastic welds. I'm wondering if that unit is coded to the car, or if I may be able to swap from a working car to check.

Otherwise, how do I get to the CEM to check for any damage that end? VIDA wasn't particularly helpful in showing where it is.

The CEM is in front of the glove compartment.

Is it on the LHS on a RHD car? That was my main query, as any diagrams I've seen pointing to it show LHD cars.
