Map update?

I've followed the instructions online to download the software which in turn downloads the map files onto a USB.
I've tried with various USBs, external hdds and now even bought a 32GB USB. I've used W10 to format it as 32GB.
However when I plug in the USB into the car nothing happens. If I copy some music files it sees the music files but not the maps.
Do I need to unzip anything on the USB?

You need to make sure your USB stick is completely empty before downloading map on to it, if you are loading the full europe map your USB stick is not big enough as it is over 40gb, you can just download uk, ireland and Iceland map on to the smaller USB as it is less the 2gb in size, you will not lose any of the full europe maps it will just update the one you downloaded.
No need to do anything once map is on stick just plug it in and turn on ignition and map will do its upload, you can slide down sensus screen from the top to see progress. ( as you would to see settings)

Thanks. I’m just wanting to update the UK map. USB is brand new and empty.
Nothing happens when I plug USB in although I’ve never tried sliding down to see progress. I was in the Map update screen and all I can see is Map too big. See support.volvo.co.uk with the install option greyed out.

No need to go into update screen when using a USB to upload your maps. Its just plug and play

That’s the thing, nothing seems to happen when I plug the USB in.

Have you swiped screen down to check for a message to say its downloading

With the (all) Europe maps already installed I could never get NW Europe to install via USB. Same as the the OP, it just did nothing.

I reverted to do doing the (all) Europe update and that worked fine. As it wasn't a big issue I never pursued why NW (only) wouldn't work.

I've heard some people have success if format USB using Macs.

edit: I was wrong about the full EU size Will try to install the full one.

How long did the full EU map update take Lexman8?

P/S: Off topic but I've also noticed GraceNote update. Anyone tried this?

I did the first one on an 64gb USB stick but since then have updates the NW updates via the sim in the car (12gb 3 mobile sim). It doesn't take long to download and it just installs automatically each time I start the car.
