Default LPT or HPT ??

Here's a question for you. Just called Volvo to check on a part and according to them my registration makes my car an HPT or FT engine. I've always thought and was told by previous owners that my car is LPT or FK engine. I'm pretty certain it has B230FK on cam cover and I don't have a turbo gauge under my rev counter ? I read out the reg twice and he still said FT engine

All very odd !

only difference will be waste gate spring pressure & i think the fueling map may differ slightly. some people prefer the lpt due to less strain / ware on the engine.

Slightly off topic, but I never really get the point of why they (Volvo) bothered producing the low pressure turbo cars.

If B230FK is identical to B230FT the in all but the wastegate then it begs the question, why did they bother producting the lower powered car?

Interesting.

So the boost on B230FK starts earlier than on B230FT? If so if one ups the boost via MBC to the equivalent produced by the high pressure turbo engine does that mean boost is lost lower down the rev range as a result?
