Default Xenon headlamp dip adjust

Hi,
I have a 2015 V70 D3 (2 litre) with I think active xenon headlights. Well they are very bright anyway.
The manual states that there is a “Headlamp control for adjusting headlamp pattern” (for LH and RH driving) and gives a picture, presumably under the bonnet somewhere, but for the life of me, I cannot recognise where it is, or the gismo which has two positions to adjust the dip pattern.

I asked the Volvo dealer about how to change the dip pattern for when I drive in France and he said that the lights adjust automatically for this. Is this true ?

It makes a change from cutting out black Fablon masks and sticking them on my old 2009 V70 with halogen lights.

Can anyone help on this please?

If you type "adjusting headlights volvo v 70" into google search bar it will bring up a selection of u tube links. The one I just checked from endeavour automotive explained the most modern version using on board menu as well as explaining the older version of removing headlamp units and moving the switch over. Much easier than me trying to type in full instructions

Did the search but looked for xenon V70 and came up with this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NXfZB9ZRIA

It is a Volvo video and states that the headlights adjust automatically to prevent dazzling oncoming traffic. So there we are, thank you for the tip.

We have a 2010 XC70 with bi xenon self levelling headlamps. Upon start up with car facing garage door the light beam can be seen to move up then down to it’s running position. There is no level adjustment on the dashboard controls. When we acquired the car, being curious and liking to know how things work, I removed the headlamp units as per manual and checked that the LH drive or RH drive lever in each lamp was in the correct position. The lever is within the back of the headlamp unit and is only accessible with the headlamp unit removed. They were, but could easily be moved back and forth.
How does the car know that you are now driving on the right and adjust the lights accordingly? I don’t think it does.
Are you confusing the dip beam aim with the active bending headlamps which are controlled by input from the steering?

I have a V70 MY2015 with active xenon and the adjustment for driving on the right is the same as Ian21401 stated. You remove the headlight, remove the cover and there is a switch which you move. see here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qr9-lZdDSLI make sure you look at the correct model and type of headlight, they are different.

Thanks for the advice.
By the cringe, what a dreadful setup for the 2015 V70. At home, I will pull one headlight unit out and try and find this magic lever. It is not the thing to do in lashing rain at a queue at Eurotunnel Folkestone or Coquelles !

In my older and more graceful XC90, I press and hold the ABL switch inside the car, and the headlamps dutifully move to the other side.

Much more refined.
No getting wet in the rain.

I always take the 37 minute crossing in the Tunnel to adjust the beams. It doesn't rain it there and unlike ferries, you have access to the car. But you have to be able to do the job in half an hour!

Dear all,
Thank you very much for all your advice.
I have removed both headlight units and given them a good clean as the first one removed made my hands quite dirty (need to add headlight units to my detailing list !). Those ‘tent pegs’ are good for removing the multiplug, one flexes the plastic spring retaining plate and the other levers off the plug. The back cover plate retaining clips are levered off (gently) too using them, as my fingers lack strength these days.
I now can see what the handbook picture is showing. It is the headlight unit with the rear cover plate removed. At first glance it suggests that the box is to be moved from A to B. But with the headlight unit off and cover plate removed the only thing I could find was a black plastic lever to move. Why didn’t Volvo write this part more clearly ?
Must add baby wipes to my list of things to take to France. Not sure if I could affect this change in the shuttle unless I practise approaching each headlight unit from the side of the car. I will undertake a few dry runs in my garage against the clock.
With all the sophistication of a V70, what a crazy thing to have to do.
