Default Airbox Air Flap stuck open! loss of power / drivability

In the hot weather my D5 has been down on power and not feeling 100%. Not loads but just enough to notice it just didn't feel right, especially in traffic pulling away.

Yellow light came on while driving at the weekend and I had a minor heart attack till read it said 'fill screenwash' :-).

I opened the bonnet and filled it with screenwash and it was then I noticed a flap open at the front of the engine bay. Its part of the airbox intake system that on very very cold start ups, the airbox draws warm air from the engine bay and then closes as it warms up. this was open when the engine was hot and it was 25degrees outside!

It took 30 seconds to remove a thermostat type thing that operates it! I taped the flap close for a test and the car was transformed, all issues gone. I put the thermostat in boiling water and it didnt move so sure its stuck in its open position. I googled the part number on the side of the thermostat assy '30741053' but not much comes up at all.

if you google ' air thermostat volvo' loads of issues come up with early Volvos running bad when this flap is stuck open and you can buy replacements parts but I find nothing on this part on a V70! I cant believe I'm the only person who's had one fail on a V70.

well worth checking yours when you have the time!

has anyone else had issues with this and managed to find a replacement thermostat?

ive searched and searched but found nothing

oh I see, I figured the parts would be interchangeable but I guess that's not always the case

maybe just wait and see what it's like now for cold start and update the thread for others to see.. in UK climate it might not really matter, as long as your normal 'stat is working ok
