Default Oil pressure

hi, my S60 brimmed with nice oil; all was good yesterday after a period laid up, but today a warning message says 'no oil pressure stop engine' and red oil-can light stays on.
...it's parked up now, but wondered if anyone else has come across this pls.? Thinking...perhaps there's a sensor which might be dirty / generating a false reading. Or might it need a new oil pump.
Anyway, the only thing i did to upset her today was to reset the 'service interval reminder'.
Grateful any views and/or advice if you have time.

I agree with simmy above. These engines shouldn’t be “brimmed”.

Assuming you have a D5, they only take 5.7L of oil. Make sure you haven’t overfilled the engine.

Sorry - my poor expression: engine oil just right, not over filled. Appreciate the responses.

It may sound trivial, but check over your work. Make sure the filter housing is tight, the sump plug etc & check the oil level again to make sure its bang on where it should be.

I imagine if you had a big leak, it’d be noticeable! Nevertheless, start with the basics.

Default Oil Pressure

Hi, thanks. Good point. Re-checked level and all seem clean and sound; no evidence of leakage.
The engine turned today, oil light went off quickly and stayed fine for 2 mins. Then the light flashed on and off. All fine for another 2 mins, then light flashed on and stayed on, with the warning message 'no oil pressure - stop engine'.
So seems there's a fault which presents after a short while, perhaps as you say a sensor. Maybe heat related. If the oil pump had failed, then i suspect the redlight would not have gone out on the key turn, and the message would have been present from the start.
Again, appreciated your time and thoughts.

have you used the correct spec oil and a volvo or mann filter these things could affect your oil pressure . oil pressure and pump failiure are almost un heard of on d5 engines it might be worth replaceing the oil pressure switch to see if it has any effect do not drive it untill you resolve this fault...

First get a new oil pressure light switch fitted . then if it still does it the sump will have to come off the check the pick up Gauze filter at the bottom of the sump and it's sealing ring into the oil pump . the oil could have gunged up in the bottom of the sump when it wasn't being used if the oil changes were neglected or short journeys or wrong oil etc
