Default M90 gearbox noise

Is anyone else running an M90 with a dogdish flywheel and managed to make it quiet?

Mine makes noises in 1st and 2nd and a bit in 3rd, I can't hear in 4th or 5th as the road noise is too loud. If I'm in gear and come off the throttle the noise is even worse especially 2nd it sounds like the gearbox is falling apart!

It is also a lot louder if I drive for more than 30 minutes, short journeys it isn't too bad.

Is there a way to remove or reduce this noise? I've read plenty of threads of people saying it is fine and is due to the gearbox layout and not to worry, I just hate the noise and want it quieter!

They are fussy on oil.

Noise on overrun is normal but if you constantly have noise that suggests bearings are on the way out

I've used the genuine Volvo oil.

I have been thinking about pulling it out and getting it rebuilt as I have suspected the bearings are worn, I might as well just do it and then I know the gearbox is okay.

I was going to say something similar but thought it would be a bit mean!

Typical your gearbox needs an overhaul. Very annoying having to remove and refit.

Hope you get it sorted for reasonable cost Luke.

James.

Exact same as mine Andy, I drove the gearbox donor and had no noises at all (204k miles now about 208k as well!) It has a pronounced whine in 1st, I wonder if the new oil is a backwards compatibility that actually isn't compatible, after all it says it is for an XC90 T6 on the tub!
