Default Dpf regen notification?

Hi all , been away from volvo a couple of year but back in a 2009 v70 d5 se , nice machine as expected, I know a couple of mechanics who have fitted visual indicators on vauxhall insignias when it's doing a regen , apparently the cars switch on high power usage systems to aid with something I can't remember what , anyway on the insignias is the heated door mirrors that are activated during a regen , the mechanics tapped into the mirror live feed with an led which lights up when the cars doing a regen , I'm wondering what ( if any ) systems do volvos switch on to help a regen ? It would be a good help to know when the regen is in process so we're not switching off mid way etc , any ideas anyone , tks

I have a 2011 S80 D5 and first thing I notice is the mpg drops and the cooling fans run but I don't know if anything else is switched on.

This would be a very useful bit of info to know. Not sure how you would find the info. Agree about the drop in mpg..I see it in the instant read out then confirm it via the “my car”mpg read out over last 1 mile/10 miles.

Volvos regeneration is very robust and works without you feeling or noticing anything , no problem if you stop half way through either . It will figure it out on the next journey . 👍

This was a regular topic for discussion on the BMW 5-series forum when we had one. A number of different conditions had to be satisfied before it would happen. If the V70 D5 is less fussy about it I'll be happy.

In the manual for my 2012 it states that the car may turn on the rear window demist to increase engine load during regeneration. No indicator light turns on, so they mention it in the manual just in case you would notice the function being on in spite of you not turning it on yourself.

The easiest way to see it on the 2012 is to do engine braking. If the fuel consumption doesn't reach 0.00 l/100 km, then regeneration is on. If you drive at a reasonably constant speed (highway driving), then you can also see that consumption increases. Easiest to see in the bar graph in the trip statistics page in the large display (on 2012 and later cars, that have that display).

Our 2016 is easier, since it has the engine auto stop feature. In the large display, you can monitor the start/stop function. It will tell you different reasons for disabling the funtion (like towing a trailer, too cold outside or whatever). It will be disabled during regeneration, so you can see it there.
