Default Air Filter Housing - Foam?

Hello all

I bought a 2009 D5 R-design last week. It’s only got 93k on the clock and has had the cam belt and water pump replaced.

I’ve got a few bits and pieces to do to bring it up to scratch cosmetically but overall it runs very well.

I changed the air filter today with a genuine part from Volvo (Pleasantly surprised to find it as cheap as GSF and Eurocarparts). I found some sort of foam in the bottom of the filter housing and wondered if anyone could tell me whether it’s original? It was rotten, wet and covered with seeds so I removed the remains which seemed to be simply sat in the bottom of the housing. I guess the big question is whether this needs replacing and it anyone can help with a part number?

Many thanks. Mark

Thanks Simmy

It was rotten so all gone now - will be intrigued to see if it makes a difference in terms of noise.
