I'm looking for suggestions regarding my V50 2010.
Hello, everyone. I'm reaching out for some guidance. My transmission is giving me a bit of trouble lately. It seems to be quite hesitant when it comes to shifting into the top gear, often over-revving before finally, and somewhat reluctantly, engaging. It feels like I might be approaching the day when "Top Gear" is just a TV show for me, especially with the rumors of its ending.
I'm considering the need for a transmission repair or even a complete replacement, but I'm quite concerned about the potential costs, especially if I were to go to a Volvo service center. Have any of you explored alternative solutions? I'm adamant about using genuine parts but would greatly appreciate any tips on saving on labor expenses. I'm currently situated in London, United Kingdom. Could any of you kindly recommend a proficient mechanic in London who specializes in this kind of work? It's a significant investment, and I'm not eager to choose one randomly without a trustworthy referral. I'm looking into the services of the following: ASR Gearbox Repairs in London (https://asrgearboxrepairs.co.uk/location/welling/) Brittanic Auto Transmission K & N Transmissions Your insights and recommendations would be tremendously valuable! |

I'm assuming it is an auto from the description but there are several gearboxes in use...
If you have 1.6D or 2.0D then you have a Ford gearbox. If D3,D4 or D5 then Aisin Warner gearbox. In either case a fluid change is the best place to start.

I found the last paragraph of the OP to be interesting reading, but it may be another red herring to some ?

yes very interesting it is true that sometimes a fault code is produced to limit stress on other parts of the car ie limp mode to protect the engine and its associated components this is also true of tcm codes . as lots of people know a good strong battery is a must have for any volvo and most modern cars which rely on electrical components to interface with each other for a successful operation dct mecatronics being one of these.

Re: I'm looking for suggestions regarding my V50 2010.
Well, what a turn of events! It appears my vehicle's transmission had a mind of its own, resisting any attempts at adjustment and insisting on a full-scale repair. I did entertain the thought of a reconditioned transmission, but, as fate would have it, I opted for a shiny, new replacement. It was by sheer luck that I stumbled upon this group of experts using this link (https://asrgearboxrepairs.co.uk/location/welling/), and I can genuinely say that my experience was flawless. They promptly restored my car, and the final cost was a perfect match to the initial estimate.

Wow, that must be the speediest resolution ever! At 9.37am the OP posts on here asking for advice regarding a faulty transmission. At 4.30 am the next morning they post to say a new transmission has been sourced, fitted and all is well with his car.
