Temp reading
I have a 102bhp 2002 T4 engine, my temp guage reads just a tad below the 3 o clock position. my MPG has dropped to about 40
Question is does anyone know how to test my thermostat, i know if it was at the 4 o clock it probably would be but how do you know for sure. many thanks |

Take the thermostat out of the car. Put it in a pan on the cooker filled with water and see if it opens and closes depending on the water temp.

Simple really should have thought of that!!!
Where abouts is the thermostat located and i assume i will have to drain the coolant first. A quick one, what temp should the thermostat open ? |

At a guess I would expect it to open at 87/90 degrees C.
If you follow the radiator top hose to the engine block that should take you to the thermostat housing. You will not have to drain the cooling system.
