Volvo 262c Bertone
Hi,
Got chance of one of these for breaking and was wondering what sort of money they are worth, going to have a look at it Saturday morning. Up for grabs will be the interior, lights, trim and all that jazz. Was just wandering how much that would accumulate to to see if it would make it worthwhile? Thanks, Cal |

To be honest, unless its completely rotten, it would be really sad to see one being broken (even though I could use a couple of bits off it) because they are a really really rare car and im sure there are plenty of people that would be up for restoring one.
Steve

Im sure with a bit of "buyer finding" you'd find someone willing to pay >£2000 if its a good one, but if its rusting (more than likely) it would be worth a lot less, probably <£1000

No im for real a mate of mine offered me it today at work for a completely different reason than to sell on. Was just looking to recooperate some of my money. If it was worth a few k then deffo i'll put it up for sale cause of what it will cost and that will be a tidy profit.

Re: breaking 262C
I agree with Steve. To break is a mistake unless it's a total dog.
Really god ones (and they don't turn up often as they are rare to begin with) can bring anything up to £5 g The last one I saw at a major auction house (as opposed to the local fleapit that sells ex-company mondeos etc) pulled in £3 g in class 1 to 2 condition. Cheers, T

So according to 146ken's excellent research last year, we were very lucky to get three 262s (including Jen's one at the NEC over the weekend) to the Volvo Gathering at Bentley (in rural Sussex) back in summer.
Therefore as Steve says, unless REALLY rotten, it should be saved. However, logic must prevail: although anything can be rebuilt, finding the money and right enthusiast to take on the challenge will no doubt be difficult. That is, I'm afraid, the way it is. We cannot save everything, but if beyond rebuilding every part should be offered as spares to those who have better ones providing prices are not extortionate. I'm afraid I know banger-racers who only deal in Volvo 240 estates, but they always let me know when they get a decent-looking one, and providing I don't disturb the electrics and brakes let me swap any good panels for rotten ones before they crudely weld it up and put their V6 Ford engine and cage in. I would like to think this attitude will save the better bits from this 262. |
