I have a 1996 (P) V40, and wonder if anyone knows if it is possible to change the headlight units to the new 'clear lense' type. I know that the indicator units cannot be swapped due to having a slightly different shape, but not sure about the headlights.
Any thoughts gratefully recieved! Regards Chris |

T4 headlights are probably the way to go, but I haven't quzzed my Volvo dealer on it yet! Can anybody here give more info on the feasabilty of retro-fitting T4 headlights?
I'm thinking of fitting T4-type headlights to my own '98 S40- including the nice internal plastic protectors. I'll be watching this thread with interest. |

Hi, I've just fitted the later model headlights to my v40. The lights go straight in but you'll need the plug off the back of the new lights to do the job propely and I ended up buying the complete loom off the breaker (was only £25) to get them as volvo couldnt come up with a part number. I got an auto elec to fit them and now they look like origional equipment. You can give me a bell on 07050 682748 if you need any help.

Cheers for the information Andy! I havn't any immediate plans to carry out the headlight modification, but i may well have a bash in the future when time and funds allow.. i was just wandering if the mod. was actually possible, which it obviously is!
Just out of interest, where did you get the actual headlight units? Any good breakers or sources would be gratefully recieved! Cheers Chris |

Hi.
My local Volvo dealer did mine on my old 2.0T. The lights were £135 each plus VAT (brand new), and it cost about £70 to get them fitted. If your car is still under warranty beware, as it will invalidate it if you change them yourself. Later, Dan. |

I have not fitted my yet. Indicator can be taken from the T4-model as well, and if you are realy in to clear-lens take rearlight(and for V40 the ramp between the lights on the reardoor) from Ph2 (2000-) they are much nicer than the old ones. I can also recomend white sidemarkers (www.reproglas.com/x40.html) for those who like me hate amber/red color.
The only trouble with twinlight is to have lowbeam stay on while highbeam come on, (have to build a new wiring to have that done but i have a wireing diagram over that) and change the enginge that adjust the high off lightunit. |

I have a wiring diagram I used to convert my '96MY. S40 from single to twin headlights. It is adapted from the Haynes workshop manual. It is too big to post on the forum. However I will willingly e-mail it if you wish. ray.thorp@btinternet.com Ray T |
