Default Help needed with v70 ignition switch

Hi all.
A friend of mine has a 98 V70 and the ingnition switch key just turns round and round when he is trying to start it, It sounds like the latch inside is worn and he,s been told by the local garage that he needs a new switch at a cost of around 300 pounds to fix the fault.
Trouble is he is a broke musician (like me) and cannot find that kind of dosh at the mo so I,m looking for a way of fixing it on the cheap.
I,ve looked on ebay at switches but I don,t know exactly which type his car requires, can anybody help with this?
I,m fairly handy at taking bits of cars apart and putting them back again but it,s nice to have an idea of what I,m doing before I start.
All the best.
Wiz.
