Yep, another one of these threads from me lol

Looking at a 2001 S40 1.8 with 88k, he says he drove through a puddle and the lambda light has come on, still running ok appearantly.

I know these engines in the Carisma's are known for coking up and I think I seen threads on here about it too, is it a big problem with these cars? The fella wanting to buy it does alot of short town driving, I'm thinking it could cause him hassle?

Leave it - you don't know if it's been run on 98 RON all it's life as it should have been and then it's a problem waiting to happen. There's plenty of Volvo engined 1.8's to choose from.

Well, we went today and bought the car, very nice it is too, 2001, 85k, it needs read discs and pads, an aerial, and the EML sorted. Friend of mine is coming to read the codes tomorrow. Its idling poorly and cuts out at times, but driving, other than a slight misfire at times it seems perfect, anybody like to try and pre-diagonise the fault?

might req a decoke, also the injectors can fail and over-fuel.

could be many things on this engine variant, unfortunately there renowned to cause many problems, most very expensive.

Yep, told the mate this before he went and bought it, but tbh, its cheap enough he'd have an allowance if it needed a few £'s spent on it

ill throw a guess that it stands a fair to middling chance of wanting some injector cleaning,of some type, (in the tank stuff or take out n clean) and at 85k check that the timing belt/cam belt has been swapped, or budget for that "now" rather than later.along with generally a goodly decoke/clean out of fuel system n carbon build up,, "bog basic service items" ,, and a smile shall be on the chaps face.

Timing belt done at 83k, about 2 months ago.

Is there a guide on here to the De-Coke or is it a simple clean out of throttle body ect?

I've heard about this problem on Carisma's, but my knowledge of this engine is very limited lol

Fault code stored to rear lambda probe, but I think its only cause the engine is hunting slightly, so looks like a cleaning of throttle body for a start. Also had a code for the air con, pressure sensor? Mean anything to anyone?
