Unhappy 440 series B20F transmission mount replacement

I've just repaired the transmission mount on the 440 (at rear of engine/gearbox). The mount consists of two pieces - a steel bracket and a rubber mount, bolted together. The mount was broken and came out in to pieces. However I cannot now get the mount back into place, either as a bolted-up assembly or as two separate parts (can't bolt them together once they are in place).
I'm sure there must be a trick to re-installing this transmission mount - has anyone done this, or does anyone know the proper Volvo method? (The Haynes Manual is no use at all unfortunately)

I myself haven't removed the gearbox from my 460 so i can't help much there. All i know is that the engine has to be lowered a bit so that the gearbox can be taken out.
Is this the bracket you're thinking of? This is from the service manual. It might help if you loosen the bolts (no. 17) that way you might be able to position the bracket afterwards in the desired position.

Thanks for this reply GTMaster - I've now managed to get the Transmission Mount back into place after trying a few different solutions. The illustration you've provided is similar, but not exactly the same as the Mount on my 440 - on my car the metal bracket looks very similar to the illustration, and underslung on the end of the metal bracket is a spherical rubber cushion which bolts down to the subframe.
To reinstall the mount requires the car front end to be up on ramps to permit access underneath, and then:
1. bolt the bracket and the rubber cushion together before installation - ensure alignment is correct or mounting holes will not align with holes on car
2. take engine weight with hoist or crane
3. unbolt front LHS engine mount and raise engine to clear stud
4. move LHS of engine forward by rachet strap or lever by around 3 inches or so
5. this should provide just enough space to insert the transmission mount down the LHS of the rear of the engine from above, and manouvre it into place.
6. to align the mounting holes will take some manipulation of the engine height and position - the bolts/set screws are difficult to access - needs to be done from both above and below the car.

Hope this might help anyone else faced with this job
