Default fault in engine electronic system

the fault in the electronic system dash light has just come on and in the volvo hand book it states

if this light stays on after the engine has started,
a fault has been detected in the engine's
fuel or ignition system. this could mean that
the engine does not meet exhaust regulations.
have your car checked out by a volvo workshop.

is there a sensor or any anything like that to replace i have put it on the diagnostic machine and no fault codes came up.

any help on this will be very helpfull thanks

What car & model you have will help with your question!

Default Volvo 460 Immobiliser Problem

Hi Kerry...Although I live in Brighton, I had to abandon my Volvo 460 in London because I couldn't disarm the immobiliser with my key fob. It was left standing for a few weeks but it disarmed and started and drove up and down the road. But when I tried to disarm later in the day, it wouldn't receive the signal.

The RAC confirmed that the fob was sending a signal but the receiver (transponder?) wasn't re-acting to the signal. Someone suggested, removing the relevant fuses and then removing the battery, and then, reconnecting the battery and then re-inserting the fuses to fix the problem...would this sort out the problem? Is that the order to do it in? Do you know if there is anyone who might be able to fix the problem living in the SE19 London area? I can't pay £200+ to the main dealers because that's how much the car is worth!

Have Volvo used their diagnostic machine to read your codes?

Hi there

I dont have a big knowledge of 480's im afraid, try posting in the 400 section. My Dad used to have a 480 and we removed the alarm relay when it stopped working and just used the key in the door and ignition without activating the immobilisor!

hello no i havent took it to volvo as of yet due to the gearbox loosing all its oil while i was driving to there so i came back home limping i hope i havent killed the box as it started to make a little noise while going about 15 mph so i stopped and noticed oil all coming out of the drivers side driveshaft from the little rubber seal must of been doing it for a few months. lets just hope that i change the seal and top it back up and it will be ok as it only did it with the noise for about 20 seconds doing 10 to 20mph

what do you think any damage or am i lucky as i need a bloody break for once lol

Hopefully it is ok, I wouldnt drive it again with no oil in the box! I think the first step is to get the codes read at Volvo and see what the diagnosis is and take it from there.
