Wheel bearings can be responsible for wheel wobble but I would not call it vibration. Can be difficult to detect at the wheel by shaking etc.

Check the throttle is closing properly, but it sounds more like an air leak or other adjustment if its running lean.

Well, just goes to show what happen when the uneducated do DIY maintenance on a car...

When I had all the wheels off (bare in mind I had driven the car, knew about the brake judder and had just found the cracked front discs) I seen new rear discs and assumed the rear brake had been done and where fine. I knew I had to address a minor issue with the n/s hand brake not holding correctly. After fitting new front discs, the test drive showed the judder issue still wasn't resolved, as posted above. Went out last night expecting to find something not sitting quite right, well, actually expected to find one of the front calliper's not releasing correctly, but started at the n/s/r where I knew I had a parking brake issue anyway.
I did find a new disc, but not very shiny. The pads where nice and shiny though....
Calliper also seized and seals damaged.
New parts ordered today, no big deal, but why do people insist on doing things like this??

What's the matter with the car I'm driving?
Can't you tell that it's out of style?
Should I get a set of white wall tires?
Are you gonna cruise the miracle mile?

Brake judder can also be caused by dead spaceship bushes... My 940 celebration wobbled like a good'un when they eventually let go.

The judder on this is coming through the pedal, fairly confident when I sort the rear brakes this will cure it.

Well, I have to say I'm quite proud of what I have achieved, this 744 is now ready for the road. Its been a journey of blood, sweat, tears and lots of swearing. The braking issue is the only thing left to address, rear brakes got new pads and a calliper rebuild but I'm not 100% happy with the rear calliper, so I want to replace it. But I have driven it for 40+ miles now and its running very well. Misfire was being cause by a leaking injector pipe, seems the K Jet system is like a diesel, any loss of pressure causes it to run off a cylinder. Spent Sunday doing a bit of cleaning, would benefit from a machine polish, but a wash, polish and dress the plastics has made a world of difference to it. This car has turned from scrap yard junk to a good useable starter classic, now just need a new loving owner. And what is more important, I've kept a 700 on the road and off the track!!

Excellent work. Thanks for info about fuel pressure, mine often starts on three cylinders so I'll need to look into that.

Mine too, my next plan is to strip the K-Jet down on my own 740 and see what I can find. This 740 was missing on idle, but under load it was fine. Was as if it had an air leak, then I spotted the seal housing bit for the injector filled with petrol, changed the pipe and presto, 4 cylinders. Also, its got to be the best starting 740 I've seen!

                  The rescue

The rescue looks very nice. Some US spec headlights would look good on the front...

I'm torn with doing the US spec on my own 740, I like the head light wipers, but it very rarely gets driven in bad weather or snow, so I could probably live without them now lol

This weekend I had the privilege to drive Andy's 740GL, whilst he fitted a timing belt to my V50.i extended the pick up time to enjoy his car.
It was an absolute joy to drive it, the 740 has a presence on the road and a good turn of speed when required (70 +). Andy all your hard work has paid off and another 740 is on the road.

Andy I wanted to invite you round to mine for a cuppa while I worked on my brothers 1987 740 carb fed wagon last weekend, we would have had three on my driveway! I sourced and rejuvenated his wagon two years ago and spent an afternoon doing service works (oil &filter, air filter, plugs, in line fuel filter, gearbox oil, carb intake and choke spray clean) then Sunday morning electric polishing, polish and wax and resprayed all of the black exteriors ( bumpers, mirrors, door handles etc). Looked like a new car again when I delivered it back to him in Belfast..

We do enjoy keeping these beats on the road don't we.... !!
