AOC oil and filter change.

Just an update on my attempts to service the haldex on my car.
I could indeed remove the bolts on the old slimline filter cover, however, I would not be able to refit the new style filter cap as it's much deeper.
So I'll get mine changed in the garage when I have the exhaust done which looks rotten unfortunately.sigpic

Well, I followed the OP's instructions and have removed everything including the pump on my 2005 XC70. The pump works when coupled up
to external 12v but I am still going to strip it down and check the brushes on the motor. I have new spare ones ready to install if needed. I
don't want to do this job again so it makes sense to take my time and check everything thoroughly.
Not a bad job really but try as I might I could not get enough movement on the prop with the exhaust in situ so removed it and then it gave
ample clearance.
The oil and filter that came out of mine was absolutely filthy like thin lithium grease 168k on the clock.
Mine was also showing a code of DEM 0007 ( pressure sensor ) so I have a new one to go in on reassembly.
Not one bolt was seized and my new electric impact gun made short work of the flange nut,:thumbs_up:Last edited by S60D5-185; Sep 2, 2016, 19:26.“Do the right thing. It will gratify some people and astonish the rest.” – Mark Twain 😊

:
I have changed the oil in the AOC at least a dozen times, not with new, but with "stood several days in glass jars" so the sediment settles out type. I can not believe how much crud was in the AOC. If you have time it might be a worth while exercise for you too.
Glad you got a result
Cheers

Bob. I stripped the pump motor tonight and the brushes were actually still entirely serviceable and free in their sliders. No further attention required.
I cleaned all of the internal thoroughly and have now reassembled it.
A bench test shows it to be working reliably.
I have allowed the AOC oil to drain all afternoon but am going to use a recently bought electric suction pump ( Aldi £12 ) to remove any more oil lying in the AOC unit.
Got a new filter and correct oil ready so if the weather is decent tomorrow I will reassemble the car.:thumbs_up:Last edited by S60D5-185; Sep 2, 2016, 23:24.“Do the right thing. It will gratify some people and astonish the rest.” – Mark Twain 😊

Thanks for brush info... I'll sleep easier now.Originally posted by S60D5-185 View PostBob. I stripped the pump motor tonight and the brushes were actually still entirely serviceable and free in their sliders. No further attention required.
I have allowed the AOC oil to drain all afternoon:
The removed haldex oil - leave it standing a couple of days - How much gunk sinks to the bottom?? ... I got a good 1/2" in a 1lb jam jar full of fluid. I then returned the old oil (less gunk) to the AOC and agitated it by blowing down the tube I used to remove it. I then removed the oil again and again. I did this several times and ALWAYS got a considerable amount of gunk from the AOC.
To my mind just changing the oil will leave a considerable amount of gunk in the AOC. I can't remember if this is the correct correct way round but Audi/VW recommend changing the oil every 20Kms and the filter every 40Kms in these units.
Cheers

Hello
I'm wondering if you change the pressure sensor as well?
Planning to undertake oil and filter change this's weekend as had same error DEM-0007 coming up.

Thanks a lot for this useful information, I found also few videos on YouTube. Think they'll be useful :Originally posted by tackit View PostWhen you remove the filter, drain the old oil completely by removing the pump and refill it until it weeps from the filler plug hole, the oil level will drop slightly when the filter fills with oil again after running the vehicle.
So a top up should be done after a few miles.

Still searching for confirmation if I ought to replace sensor that relates to DEM-0007 code. What I probably do is to sort out filter and oil + clean the pump and see if there is any improvement.

Haldex oil change - Issue to remove the rear prop shaft
Hi all,
My car is an XC AWD 2006 Automatic
I am new to this kind of project on my car, so bear with me.
I have been trying to remove the rear propeller shaft since this morning, but so far I was only able to remove the 6 allen bolts.
Since my car is on cribbing stands (14" space to work is very nice), I cannot rotate the propshaft, therefore I could only put one m8 bolt (20mm long) on the back of the flange as an attempt to push the propshaft out the flange.
The fact that I cannot rotate the propshaft seems to be a big issue, as I cannot put one or two more m8 bolts on the back of the flange to help pushing the thing out.
So my questions are:
1) In order to be able to rotate the propshaft with my hands, should the car have the 4 wheels freed up (which essentially means to put it on jack stands) ?
2) If the answer to 1) is yes, do I have to put the gear in Neutral and try to rotate the propshaft with my hands? Or do I have to put the Neutral and rotate the wheels by hand to get the propshaft to rotate?
If the answer to 1) is no, please provide more details.
3) Anything else I need to remove in addition to the propshaft centre bearing?
4) Can I use a longer than 20mm bolt on the back of the flange?
Any advice is very welcome.
Thank you!

You cannot rotate the propshaft by hand, if it is working good.
Yes the four wheels have to be up in the air and should begin neutral to rotate it.
Although it is in my todo list, Ian not sure about the boltsVolvo Xc90 D5 2005

Sorry, just reread your post. Centre bearing must be dropped from floorpan but you already know that.Originally posted by Metallo View PostHi all,

Hi,
OK, car is on the stands now, rotating one of the front wheels rotates the shaft, which is good.
What is not good is that I tried already 2 bolts on the back of the flange, no movement.
I wonder, the bolts are 20mm long, once they are all in they should push the shaft out, why does it not move??
Can I use PB Blaster (powerful penetrating catalyst that can be used with rust) all around the cv joint to see if that helps?
Also, can I use it on the on the back of the flange where the m8 20mm bolts screw in?
Do you think removing the central bearing holder and allowing the shaft to bend may help someway?
Gosh, I have been trying for two days now, I am exhausted.
Thanks for your help
