The fault does have a habit of coming back again and again, even after a re-set, so in the long term you probably do need a new sensor(s)!
Interestingly, I had a conversation with someone at the weekend who replaced all 4 of his rear XC90 sensors about a year ago because he kept getting the 'park assist service required' message more and more often. He actually bought the cheap £15 each ones off ebay and they have worked faultlessly ever since!!
Perhaps Volvo are just making a huge profit on their 'genuine' ones?? I typically found this out after I'd bought genuine ones like 12345!
Paul2017 V90 D4 Inscription, Mussel Blue, Amber perforated leather and lots of technology!
1973 1800ES, Gold, Black leather and very little technology!

It'll be back, mark my words! Had similar problem when under warranty. Dealers did this initially until it kept coming back whereupon they changed the sensors and loom, which is often a problem too.Originally posted by Acer View PostNot sure whether to be worried or happy. Volvo read the code, found it was number 3 playing up, reset the system and now it works. Error cleared. Should i insist it is changed anyway?

Guess what. I arrive, test the car and it has exactly the same issue. Thanks for making me take a day off for nothing Volvo! Now they have to take the bumper off and look at the wiring and sensors. Bloody useless!!Originally posted by bobdabuilda View PostIt'll be back, mark my words! Had similar problem when under warranty. The Vidas system advised sensor three was at fault but the engineer admitted he did not understand why it failed to generate a parking assist service required message. He has never encountered these symptoms before with no error. Great! So now we are after a needle in a haystack and the lack of error cost me an extra 250 to fix damage. Had it flagged properly she would have been more careful.Volvo V40 T5 AWD Polestar Cross Country Pro 2018 MY | full leather | Volvo styling kit | Power seats | Xenium pack | Intellisafe Pack | Harman Kardon premium sound system | Winter pack | Bright Silver | FVSH | Only 20k miles

Now i feel better!Originally posted by 12345 View PostI brought ebay sensors that were stamped as Volvo and looked identical, but they gave a continuous beep with the engine running b
They didn't work and I had to then go to the dealer for genuine sensors.Volvo V40 T5 AWD Polestar Cross Country Pro 2018 MY | full leather | Volvo styling kit | Power seats | Xenium pack | Intellisafe Pack | Harman Kardon premium sound system | Winter pack | Bright Silver | FVSH | Only 20k miles

So they changed the wiring loom, which had been partly damaged by exhaust heat, but still sensor 3 was misbehaving. I was happy to change the loom anyway, after reading advice on this forum. I opted to have all four sensors changed while the bumper was off. This has been a painfully expensive exercise but I didn't see the point of changing only one, just to find another go in a couple of months. All working fine now.Originally posted by 12345 View PostI brought ebay sensors that were stamped as Volvo and looked identical, but they gave a continuous beep with the engine running b

£540 and that doesn't include £150 to replace the rear lower light cover. Had to cough up or i could see the same thing happening again down the line. Can't keep coughing up for light replacements, they are very expensive.Originally posted by 12345 View PostAt least you know it's all done now. Ouch! bet that hurt your wallet!
Although Volvo no longer sell the complete reversing sensor kit for under £200 like they used to, Simon at FRF Volvo Swansea can supply the loom, 4 sensors and the control module for around £350 which if fitted yourself would have saved you a fair bit of expense.

That is a good deal, where were you when I first posted this! :). At that price I would effectively have got the PAM for free. They offered me the full kit including PAM for £670 fitted. Typically I can expect that module to fail shortly but at least narrowing down the fault should be easy! :). Mind you it is a big job just removing the rear bumper, so all in I probably paid £200 labour costs. I didn't have the time to do it and frankly didn't want the risk.Originally posted by cassell View PostOuch! bet that hurt your wallet!

Nice of Volvo to stop selling cost effective kits, just because they want to make more money.Volvo V40 T5 AWD Polestar Cross Country Pro 2018 MY | full leather | Volvo styling kit | Power seats | Xenium pack | Intellisafe Pack | Harman Kardon premium sound system | Winter pack | Bright Silver | FVSH | Only 20k miles

Yep it is not near the exhaust. If one has gone I would change them all. It is a big job taking that rear bumper off.Originally posted by cassell View PostLeft to Right AFAIK, so number 3 is to the right of centre!Volvo V40 T5 AWD Polestar Cross Country Pro 2018 MY | full leather | Volvo styling kit | Power seats | Xenium pack | Intellisafe Pack | Harman Kardon premium sound system | Winter pack | Bright Silver | FVSH | Only 20k miles
