The fault does have a habit of coming back again and again, even after a re-set, so in the long term you probably do need a new sensor(s)!

Interestingly, I had a conversation with someone at the weekend who replaced all 4 of his rear XC90 sensors about a year ago because he kept getting the 'park assist service required' message more and more often. He actually bought the cheap £15 each ones off ebay and they have worked faultlessly ever since!!

Perhaps Volvo are just making a huge profit on their 'genuine' ones?? I typically found this out after I'd bought genuine ones like 12345!

It'll be back, mark my words! Had similar problem when under warranty. Dealers did this initially until it kept coming back whereupon they changed the sensors and loom, which is often a problem too.

Guess what. I arrive, test the car and it has exactly the same issue. Thanks for making me take a day off for nothing Volvo! Now they have to take the bumper off and look at the wiring and sensors. Bloody useless!!

The Vidas system advised sensor three was at fault but the engineer admitted he did not understand why it failed to generate a parking assist service required message. He has never encountered these symptoms before with no error. Great! So now we are after a needle in a haystack and the lack of error cost me an extra 250 to fix damage. Had it flagged properly she would have been more careful.

I brought ebay sensors that were stamped as Volvo and looked identical, but they gave a continuous beep with the engine running b

They didn't work and I had to then go to the dealer for genuine sensors.

So they changed the wiring loom, which had been partly damaged by exhaust heat, but still sensor 3 was misbehaving. I was happy to change the loom anyway, after reading advice on this forum. I opted to have all four sensors changed while the bumper was off. This has been a painfully expensive exercise but I didn't see the point of changing only one, just to find another go in a couple of months. All working fine now.

At least you know it's all done now. How much did it cost ?

£540 and that doesn't include £150 to replace the rear lower light cover. Had to cough up or i could see the same thing happening again down the line. Can't keep coughing up for light replacements, they are very expensive.

Ouch! bet that hurt your wallet!

Although Volvo no longer sell the complete reversing sensor kit for under £200 like they used to, Simon at FRF Volvo Swansea can supply the loom, 4 sensors and the control module for around £350 which if fitted yourself would have saved you a fair bit of expense.

At least it's all done now though!

That is a good deal, where were you when I first posted this! :). At that price I would effectively have got the PAM for free. They offered me the full kit including PAM for £670 fitted. Typically I can expect that module to fail shortly but at least narrowing down the fault should be easy! :). Mind you it is a big job just removing the rear bumper, so all in I probably paid £200 labour costs. I didn't have the time to do it and frankly didn't want the risk.

Nice of Volvo to stop selling cost effective kits, just because they want to make more money.

3 seems to be a popular number for sensor failure! mine is showing as number 3 failed as well.

                            is it L-R 1 2 3 4
                            or R-L 4 3 2 1

                            i'm guessing its R-L 4 3 2 1 (that would make 3 the one above the exhaust)

Left to Right AFAIK, so number 3 is to the right of centre!

Yep it is not near the exhaust. If one has gone I would change them all. It is a big job taking that rear bumper off.
